Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Uruguay

Omar Paganini is the current minister of industry, energy and mining in the Government of the Republic of Uruguay. In 2003, he became dean of the engineering faculty of the Catholic University of Uruguay. Then, he served as vice chancellor of economic management and development of that same institution and up until his appointment as minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, he was the director of the UCU business school. Previously, between 2001 and 2003, he joined the consulting firm ITC of Antel. In 1995, he joined the department of Payandasú as the director of the company Paylana S.A., where he generated innovations within textile technology following his founding of a company offering services in engineering and automation for the industry in 1990.

Omar Paganini is an electrical engineer with a degree from the University of the Republic and has a master’s in business management from the Catholic University of Uruguay. Additionally, he studied entrepreneurship at both Stanford University and UC Berkeley, as well as negotiation as part of the Global PON program organized by Harvard University.
