He previously headed the Directorate for Strategic Communication and Foresight in the European External Action Service in Brussels, where he also served as Deputy Head of Cabinet of High Representative/Vice-Presidents Federica Mogherini and Catherine Ashton. Earlier assignments include the Private Office of Foreign Ministers Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Guido Westerwelle as well as German Missions in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Mr Rentschler holds a Masters Degree in Political Economy from the University Bayreuth.
