Minister of Energy and Mines, Cuba

"One of the most concerning topics which is needed to take into consideration when analyzing the ways to achieve a global Energiewende is the differences among countries in terms of economic development, energy production basis, power infrastructure, energy access and financial advantages. A sustainable energy system requires the support of the public sector but it is also needed to have a strong financial support system for countries like Cuba, which is committed to energy transition but needs more financial facilities and international cooperation. The price of renewable energy technologies is another deterrent for developing countries because, even though it has decreased, is still not affordable for poor economies. To fulfill global climate goals, Renewable Energy Sources deployment must increase by at least six times compared to current government plans. Further acceleration is needed focused on the three cornerstones of the energy transition, these are: Renewable Energy Sources, electrification and Energy Efficiency."
