Claudio Barbaro State Secretary for the Environment and Energy Security, Italy

Undesecretary of State Claudio Barbaro has a long experience of politics at national level. Prior to his appointment to his current position, Mr. Claudio Barbaro was Deputy of the Italian Republic to the Chamber from 2008 to 2013 and Senator of the Italian Republic from 2018 to 2022.
As Undersecretary of State (from 2nd November 2022) to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security Mr. Claudio Barbaro has a key role in the following subjects:
– Activities related to the governance of national marine and terrestrial protected areas
– Activities related to the establishment of reserves under the MAB Programme UNESCO, activities related to the CITES, Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild fauna and Flora, the national biodiversity strategy and the Nature Charter and the Natura 2000 Network, ecc.
– Environmental sustainability activities at events sports and sports facilities, including in relation to the application of the system of minimum environmental criteria (CAM) and the application of the Protocol of Understanding between the Ministry, the CONI and the Sport and Health S.p.a. of 18 April 2019.
– Activities related to environmental education and environmental and civil service for sustainable development also in Youth policy.
He graduated in law and he is also President of “ASI” one of the main italian bodies that in Italy promotes sport “for all”. Specifically, ASI – Associazione Sportive e Sociali Italiane is a sport promotion body recognized by CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) among the most important in Italy. It is also a National Association Network, as well as Association of Social Promotizion recognized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies. It brings together amateur sports associations, sports associations, social promotion associations and other affiliated third sector bodies, contributing to their social and cultural sporting, recreational and cultural activities.
