Aminath Shauna

Minister of Environment, Climate Change & Technology, Maldives

"It is very important that we take swift action to achieve the global Energiewende, to limit the global warming to 1.5 degrees for countries like the Maldives to survive the climate emergency. (…) Finance is the key to realize our ambitions of moving towards a greener future, to reduce our heavy dependence on fossil fuels and government expenditure on subsidies, and to ensure energy security and reduce emissions. The contribution of the private sector will be necessary to mobilize the scale of financing required for this transition and therefore enabling policies and financial signals to incentivize this transformation would be crucial."
